This is the official website of Chen Qu.  As a young artist and performer, Chen has earned her reputation as a talented musician in both Singapore and Finland. She has continued to make significant contributions to bridge Classical Western and Chinese folk music through performances, presentations and pedagogical teaching ideas.

Passion in Performance & Pedagogy

Chen Qu is a virtuosic young Chinese pianist and the artistic director of WPTA (World Piano Teachers Association) Finland. Chen holds a diploma in music Performance from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), class of Dr. Nicholas Ong (The Julliard School) and Bachelors in Music from Sibelius Academy. She is finishing her Masters in Classical piano performance and piano pedagogy in the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki under the tutelage of renowned Finnish pianists Teppo Koivisto and Juhani Lagerspetz.

 

Chen began her musical journey at 4 years old and by the age of 12, she has obtained the highest possible grade 10 piano certification conferred by both Shanghai conservatory, China conservatory and Chinese Musician Association. Upon graduation from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Singapore, Chen was offered acceptance to Royal College of Music London (UK), University of Auckland (New Zealand) before deciding to pursue her undergraduate and graduate studies in Sibelius Academy.

 

A multi international competition award winner, her achievements include second prize for the 3rd Irmler International Competition, Dalian, third prize in senior section of 7th International piano competition in Milan (2017) and Silver prize from Asia International piano competition in Korea at the same year. She was the First prize winner from The North International Music Competition Stockholm in 2019.

 

Apart from performing, Chen is a certified piano pedagogue and has given guest lectures at Confucius Institute, University of  Helsinki (2016). As an active choir member since young she received professional training as a pop and classical singer with tenor Lasse Riutamaa and jazz singer Ira Kaspi. Chen was invited as panel of jury for ‘Water Cube Cup' singing competition (Finland) in 2017 and 2019. 

 

As a frequent scholarship recipient of Sibelius Academy foundation grant, she actively participates in masterclasses and music festivals in Europe and Asia. Since 2014, Chen has been an active performer in cultural events and concerts in Helsinki. She was also soloist and chamber musician in 'East Meets West' concert series held in Caisa cultural centre in 2020.  She is currently working as a piano teacher in International School of Music Finland.
